Job Description

The Mathematics Program at Champlain College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to join us for the Fall 2026 semester to teach one or more of our general education math courses. We seek dedicated educators with expertise in mathematics, statistics, or a related field to join our vibrant academic community committed to student-centered learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A successful candidate will deliver engaging instruction in mathematics, fostering critical thinking and quantitative literacy among our diverse student body. This position requires a commitment to creating inclusive learning environments that support student success and intellectual growth.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging instruction in mathematics courses
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments and assessments
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in pedagogical approaches
  • Collaborate with program faculty to ensure curriculum coherence and quality
  • Participate in program meetings and activities as needed
Course Descriptions
  • MTH‑115 Mathematics for Problem‑Solving and Decision‑Making: students will learn mathematical thinking through an application‑oriented approach, exploring current topics and applying quantitative reasoning to community challenges.
  • MTH‑125 Precalculus: students gain experience with algebra, trigonometry, functions, and curve‑sketching, preparing them for calculus.
  • MTH‑180 Introduction to Statistics: students develop a statistical toolkit for navigating uncertainty, applying methods to real community issues, and integrating quantitative reasoning with interdisciplinary perspectives.
  • MTH‑230 Calculus I: students investigate differential and integral calculus with an emphasis on real‑world applications, including differentiation, integration, optimization, and differential equations.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. PhD preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in neuroscience and related areas
  • Experience teaching college‑level courses preferred
  • Experience with learning management systems desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Ability to commute to Burlington, VT campus for all scheduled class sessions
Work Arrangement
  • Be on campus for all scheduled class sessions (3 hours per week), with specific days and times to be determined
  • Maintain regular availability for student consultation during the semester
  • Participate in occasional department events or meetings as needed
Compensation
  • Credit hours taught per semester
  • Current collective bargaining agreement rates for adjunct faculty
Required Conditions

Successful completion of a criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
