Program Overview

Vacation Camp & After School Program Director facilitates and oversees BPRW's licensed Vacation Camp and potential After School programming for school-aged youth (Kindergarten–5th grade), including collaboration with Recreation Specialist, session scheduling, licensing compliance, and family communication. Director serves as the lead point of contact for each session and is responsible for the full arc of camp planning — from theme implementation and daily schedule design through staff training, day-of operations, and post-session evaluation.

BPRW Vacation Camps run during Burlington School District's scheduled school breaks:
February Break, April Break, November Break (Nov 23–25, 2026) and December Break (Dec 28-31, 2026). Additional sessions may be added; staff should be available for as many sessions as possible. Each Vacation Camp session provides 9 hours of licensed child care per day (approximately 7:30 AM–5:30 PM; staff report earlier and stay later for setup/close).

This position would also be for the potential new After School program (beginning in January 2027) as well, which would serve students every weekday from 2:50-6:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:50-6:00 p.m.

Program activities include arts and crafts, gym/active games, themed enrichment activities, outdoor time, and one field trip or on‑site guest presenter visit per session. Director will implement each session's theme and down‑to‑the‑minute daily schedule in advance, working from BPRW's established theme and schedule.

Union Affiliation:
Non‑Union. Pay Grade: $23.91 – $26.11 Hourly. Remote Tier 1:
Zero (0) days remote/week.

• Available to work all scheduled Vacation Camp sessions (November 2026, December 2026, February 2027 & April 2027), including a pre‑session planning/training day and the full run of each session. This would also include the After School program (Weekdays until June, beginning in January 2027)
• Implement each session's theme, down‑to‑the‑minute daily schedule, craft/gym/activity plan, and one field trip or on‑site guest presenter, using BPRW's established Vacation Camp schedule template as a starting point.
• Plan and coordinate day‑to‑day camp operations: camper files, transportation for the field trip day, space setup/takedown, supply inventory, and staff appreciation.
• Work with and supervise Vacation Camp Teachers and the Float & Prep Teacher for each session.
• Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for participants.
• Provide excellent customer service to parents, guardians, and caregivers through on‑going communication and session updates, including posting each day's written agenda.
• Support, along with Vacation Camp Teachers, the supervision, engagement, and well‑being of participants on‑site and during the field trip or guest presenter day.
• Ensure compliance with Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations for each session, including staff‑to‑child ratios, required documentation, emergency drills, and medication logs.
• Conduct staff evaluations following each session.
• Provide direct coverage in the event of staff shortages or ratio needs.
• Inventory, replace, and coordinate craft/activity supplies before and between sessions.
• Administer proper First Aid as required.
• Required to be on site 30 minutes before and after each camp day.
• Follow all departmental and state license rules & regulations.
• Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies, incidents, or accidents to supervisor.
• Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
• Position may require operation of a City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business (e.g., the field trip day).
