The Principal Electrical and Controls Engineer develops standards for automation controls and electrical components for the coffee manufacturing network. The role involves developing and executing strategies to improve manufacturing equipment performance through controls programming. The engineer collaborates with site-based automation controls engineers and third-party vendors.
The engineer creates documentation, provides training, mentors automation controls engineers, and recommends technical directions and new technologies. They utilize off-the-shelf and custom solutions to enhance manufacturing equipment, leading major projects, including programmatic integration between equipment, and presenting ideas to stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead PLC/SCADA standardization across the manufacturing network
- Provide technical support to operations and project teams to resolve issues and improve productivity
- Support standardization and continuous improvement of data collection and reporting systems
- Coordinate with internal and third-party support teams for technical resolutions
- Develop network strategies for controls standards and legacy program improvements
- Participate in equipment specifications, design reviews, and acceptance testing to ensure quality in electronics and controls
Ideal Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of industrial automation experience in manufacturing
- 5+ years of project-based capital engineering experience
- Extensive PLC programming experience, preferably with Allen-Bradley systems, including Rockwell Factory Talk, Logix platform, and industrial networks
- Good knowledge of SCADA systems, ideally GE iFix and Ignition
- 5+ years in process or packaging automation
- Understanding of electrical components and best practices in packaging and manufacturing
- Experience with variable speed and servo drives
- Knowledge of robotic control systems, preferably GE-Fanuc
- Understanding of computer and industrial networks
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Database knowledge is a plus
- Experience with coffee processing and packaging equipment is preferred, including roasters, grinders, blenders, conveyance, and packaging systems; liquid processes experience is a plus
