VTRANS AOT Technician; Burlington, VT

John Turner Consulting, Inc. (JTC) is looking for AOT Technician to join our team with opportunities across Vermont to support our newly acquired on‑call contract with VTRANS, supporting the construction administration and inspection teams throughout the state.

Technical activities such as construction inspection, field surveys, road and bridge design, hydraulic studies, materials testing, traffic and safety, environmental studies, planning, property administration, contract administration, and other related technical activities. Work at this level differs from the higher‑level technicians in the level of independence and from lower-level technicians in the level of expertise and breadth of knowledge required. Work is reviewed by a higher-level technician, engineer, or administrative supervisor.

There are no supervisory responsibilities.

• Ability to read and understand technical plans and specifications for construction.
• Ability to conduct field investigations to appropriately characterize various materials.
• Basic knowledge of transportation field inspection practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of data gathering techniques and various systems for organizing and interpreting data.
• Ability to compile, interpret, and apply a variety of field notes, data tables, laboratory results and other information in support of solving transportation technical problems.
• Ability to coordinate work efforts with the general public, private contractors, and other federal, state, and local agencies.
• Ability to conduct field and lab work in accordance with VOSHA and Agency safety requirements.
• Ability to maintain logs and records and to prepare clear, effective reports.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing and interpretation of test results.
• Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
• Ability to read and interpret technical information.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field.

OR

• Associate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related field AND two (2) years’ experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance, or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.

• High school graduation or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience as described above.
