Orchard Executive Search has been retained by The Business Bank, a high-performing commercial bank building momentum across New England, to find the bank’s Market President in Vermont who will set the tone and be the face of the bank in Vermont.

You will be responsible for the Vermont loan & deposit portfolio while leading the commercial, treasury management, loan operations and branch teams. You will have the autonomy to grow and lead a team of RM's and PM's and shape a performance‑based, credit‑disciplined culture as the institution scales from a $350 MM bank to a $1 B+ platform.

SUMMARY:
The Market President is responsible for the Bank’s loan and deposit business in their designated region. This role will manage the entire sales team (consisting of Relationship Managers and a Treasury Management Officer). It is responsible for driving business for the bank in the designated region, managing the loan and deposit portfolio in accordance with the bank’s credit philosophy and standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Solicit, negotiate and coordinate the closing of commercial and industrial, commercial real estate, construction, municipal and other business‑purpose loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures and applicable laws.
- Develop business and personal deposit relationships with loan customers and promote business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services.
- Be responsible for achievement of the Bank’s market‑specific loan and deposit growth objectives. Develop business‑development plans and manage staff to meet growth objectives.
- Develop and manage the regional budget in cooperation with the Bank’s CFO.
- Perform analysis of loan applicant financial condition and risk of financing requests within the framework of the Bank’s credit culture, loan policies and current economic and industry trends.
- Maintain and service a book of commercial lending relationships in the assigned market made up of commercial real estate, construction and C&I clients.
- Approve loan payments, draws from lines of credit, and fund transfers within limits specified in the Bank’s loan policies or as otherwise approved by the Loan Committee.
- Authorize term sheets, commitment letters, and decline letters, ensuring standard formats are used market wide.
- Supervise the market’s Relationship Managers and Treasury Management Officer, providing leadership, training, and support to personnel.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the commercial lending industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors, and competition.
- Represent the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business; assist Senior Management in establishing and maintaining market position in the Region’s service area.
- Engage in business‑development activities and solicitation of new business, including cross‑selling the Bank’s other products and services and referring customers to other staff as appropriate.
- Update and correspond with legal counsel and collectors on workouts, bankruptcies, and charge‑offs to ensure all possible precautionary actions or measures are taken.
- Participate with Senior Management in developing, analyzing, finalizing, and documenting major and complex loan agreements and relationships with large business customers; participate in various internal committees, as assigned by Senior Management.
- Perform personnel management activities with respect to regional staff.
- Gather loan‑related and deposit‑related data and prepare reports for Senior Management, audits, and other personnel.
