Job Summary

The Clinical Donation Specialist performs a variety of duties, all of which directly or indirectly relate to increasing the availability of suitable organs and tissues for transplantation. The incumbent serves as the primary liaison to the Center for Donation and Transplant (CDT) in developing and implementing strategies to maximize donation, support donation process, and performance outcomes within assigned Vermont and New York hospitals.

This is an on‑call position with hours outside of normal business hours. At the discretion of the CDT Administrator On Call, the Clinical Donation Specialist responds to referrals to evaluate donation potential and, when clinically appropriate, coordinate an approach for organ/tissue authorization. When families authorize donation, the Clinical Donation Specialist acts as an important link between the healthcare team and family, responsible for optimizing communication and family/healthcare team experience from time of authorization through case conclusion.

To maximize donation process readiness and overall culture of donation support, the Clinical Donation Specialist develops and sustains relationships with internal (referring physicians, nurses, leadership, etc.) and external stakeholders (CDT staff, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner). Identifies ongoing hospital/community development opportunities and collaborates with stakeholders to advance donation outcomes and/or stakeholder experience. Assists in ongoing policy review and quality programming to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.

Supports CDT in initiatives related to increasing community awareness of donation and participation.
