Position Overview
The Robert Larner, M.D., College of Medicine (LCOM) at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks an accomplished physician leader to serve as the Chair of Emergency Medicine. The Chair will also lead the Emergency Medicine Service Line for UVM Health, overseeing emergency care across Vermont and northern New York, from a tertiary Level 1 Trauma Center to critical‑access hospitals.
LCOM partners closely with the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC)—the state’s only tertiary academic medical center—to advance innovative clinical care, research, and education. UVM Health is an integrated academic health system with six hospitals and extensive outpatient services, serving communities across Vermont and northern New York.
The incoming Chair will inherit a growing department committed to clinical excellence, education, research, and community engagement. Reporting jointly to the LCOM Dean and the President and CEO of UVM Health Medical Group, the Chair will guide continued growth and impact.
Key Qualifications• M.D., D.O., or equivalent; board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
• Eligible for medical licensure in Vermont and New York.
• Credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (Clinical Scholar or Tenure pathway).
• Proven experience in recruiting, mentoring, and supporting diverse faculty across all career stages.
• Demonstrated leadership in educational settings, clinical operations, and research advancement.
• Ability to oversee a high‑volume, multisite clinical enterprise spanning rural and critical‑access environments.
• Commitment to inclusive leadership and collaboration toward successful outcomes.
• Advanced value‑based care markets and rural health systems expertise.
• Strong understanding of rural emergency care and population health.
• Experience designing innovative approaches to high‑quality care across diverse clinical settings.

The anticipated salary range is $583,991 – $672,888. This range reflects combined total compensation from UVM and UVM Health Medical Group. Additional components may be offered.
