Title IX Coord. & EO Investigator

The University of Vermont seeks an experienced professional to serve as Title IX Coordinator, a critical role in advancing the University's commitment to equity, safety, and inclusion. Reporting to the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity, this position provides leadership and oversight for the University's Title IX program and ensures institutional compliance with federal and state nondiscrimination laws. This role is well suited for a professional who brings sound legal judgment, investigative experience, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive campus environment.

In collaboration with the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Title IX Coordinator oversees UVM's response to reports of sexual misconduct involving students and employees and coordinates compliance with Title IX and related state and federal obligations, including matters involving sexual assault, gender‑based stalking, relationship violence, sexual exploitation, and sexual harassment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct sexual misconduct and equal opportunity investigations in accordance with University policies, procedures, and best practices. Investigations may involve complex matters including sexual assault, relationship violence, sexual exploitation, stalking, and other forms of discrimination or harassment involving students and employees. Prepare comprehensive investigative reports, memoranda, and other necessary documentation.
  • Assess reports of sexual misconduct and harassment to determine the appropriate level of institutional response, including determining when preliminary inquiries or full investigations are warranted. Meet with complainants, respondents, and witnesses as appropriate to explain reporting options, investigative processes, and available resources, including referral to support services.
  • Coordinate institutional compliance with Title IX requirements related to complaint investigation and resolution. Oversee timely, impartial, and thorough investigations and the implementation and monitoring of appropriate support and administrative measures.
  • Maintain case files and related records, oversee a case management system to track incidents and outcomes, and prepare statistical and compliance reports as needed.
  • Provide administrative oversight and leadership relating to sexual misconduct reporting and response processes. Support multidisciplinary case monitoring and coordinate meetings with campus stakeholders to promote effective institutional response and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Support the development and implementation of University‑wide education, training, and outreach programming related to reporting and response to sexual misconduct and discrimination. Collaborate with campus partners responsible for prevention programming to ensure alignment with compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in relevant committees, initiatives, and special projects at the direction of the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Juris Doctor and a minimum of three years of relevant experience that demonstrates in‑depth knowledge of and involvement with Title IX compliance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state law related to sexual harassment, sexual assault and other discriminatory practices that violate Title IX or other state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Effective writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Experience investigating complaints of, and working with individuals who have experienced, discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of University students, personnel, and affiliates, and across multiple disciplines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the University's Our Common Ground principles of respect, integrity, innovation, openness, justice, and responsibility.
