We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Facilities Manager to oversee the operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Burlington High School and Burlington Technical Center campuses. This leadership position is responsible for managing skilled trades personnel, coordinating preventative maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and supporting capital planning and facilities operations. The Facilities Manager works closely with school administrators, district leadership, contractors, and community partners to maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality educational facilities.
Essential Functions
- Inspects and maintains all buildings in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and workplace safety laws, regulations, and practices
- Evaluates custodial and maintenance staff
- Approves purchase of HVAC, electrical and plumbing supplies and materials
- Provide staff training for annual in-service programs as well as other educational venues
- Confers with principals on building needs
- Administration of the district work order and preventive maintenance program
- Maintain information in preventive maintenance system
- Assists the Director of Property Services with capital budgets and preparations of annual reports and projections
- Oversees and manages the implementation of district and school board procedures and policies
- General oversight of technical trades (HVAC, phone/data/intercom/sound system, electrical, fire & security alarms, plumbing, transportation, and work tasks)
- Oversees the BHS/BTC campuses
- Work with BED and other energy consultants to continuously ensure energy efficiency and conservation upgrades
- Coordinate vacation/summer facility scheduling and property usage
- Oversee critical functions during district emergencies and closures to ensure staff and community safety
- Accomplish special projects assigned by the Director of Property Services
- Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and or assigned
- Assume assigned duties in the absence of the Director of Property Services
- Submits for building and zoning permits
- Works with the School administration, Athletics Department, Drama Department (Auditorium schedule) and outside groups to ensure well organized event planning.
Qualifications
Education:

Required:
HS Diploma/GED - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree - Certification Preferred:
Professional license or building trade certification. Additional experience (fire alarm, telecom, HVAC certifications) preferred
Experience:
- Minimum
Required:
Five years’ experience in commercial trades - Personnel management experience including team leadership experience, with a preference for experience hiring, training, managing, and evaluating employees, and experience with labor relations and union environments
- Experience with building management, work, order, and preventive systems
- Legal/Regulatory knowledge in the field, including knowledge of environmental and material safety with respect to custodial maintenance in public school buildings

- Knowledge of building codes, life safety regulations, zoning requirements, OSHA/VOSHA standards, asbestos and lead management, and other applicable regulations
Working Conditions
This role involves both office and on-site work in a variety of environments, including:
Inside and outside conditions, with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and odors.
Physical requirements such as standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and operating mechanical/electrical equipment.
Occasional evening meetings and flexible scheduling are required.
