Communications, Volunteer & Operations Specialist
The Communications, Volunteer & Operations Specialist serves as a key ambassador for the Chittenden County Community Justice Center (CCCJC), helping create a welcoming, organized, and community-centered environment for participants, volunteers, partners, and visitors. This position coordinates volunteer recruitment, engagement, and support; maintains communications and outreach activities; and provides front-office, operational, and administrative support to ensure the efficient day-to-day functioning of the CCCJC.
As the primary public-facing staff member, this position fosters positive participant experiences by greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, coordinating schedules, and connecting community members with appropriate resources and staff. The Specialist coordinates communications activities, maintains communication platforms, supports volunteer engagement, and assists with community outreach under the direction of CCCJC leadership.

Performs a variety of communications, volunteer coordination, community engagement, and administrative functions in support of the Chittenden County Community Justice Center (CCCJC). Serves as a primary point of contact for participants, volunteers, visitors, and community partners; coordinates volunteer recruitment and engagement activities; maintains communications and outreach efforts; and provides operational and office support to ensure effective program delivery and a welcoming, community-centered environment.
Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination & Community Engagement (40%)
- With the assistance of the Justice Programs Manager—Community Programs, coordinate all aspects of volunteer recruitment, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, and ongoing support.
- Serve as a point of contact for volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and connected to the organization's mission and programs.
- Maintain volunteer records, schedules, participation logs, and required documentation.
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment efforts through community outreach, presentations, events, and partnerships.
- Develop and implement strategies to strengthen volunteer engagement, retention, recognition, and appreciation.
- Coordinate volunteer trainings, recognition activities, and appreciation events.
- Work with program staff to identify volunteer needs and match volunteers with meaningful opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, and partner agencies to expand volunteer participation.
- Support participant engagement activities and community events that promote restorative justice and community involvement.
Communications & Outreach (30%)
- In coordination with the Operations, Data and Communications Lead, maintain and update the CCCJC website, social media platforms, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Monitor website and social media analytics and recommend improvements to increase engagement and outreach effectiveness.
- In coordination with the Operations, Data and Communications Lead, create and edit content for outreach materials, newsletters, press releases, event promotions, community updates, presentations, flyers, and graphics.
- Design and produce communication materials that support organizational outreach and education.
- Collaborate with staff to promote programs, volunteer opportunities, community events, and organizational accomplishments.
- Ensure communications reflect organizational values, branding standards, and commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Assist with collecting and sharing program highlights, participant success stories, and impact information with stakeholders and the broader community.
Operations & Administrative Support (30%)
