Nursery Operations Assistant - Intervale Center​/VHCB

Serving as the Nursery Operations Assistant, you’ll help propagate and grow tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs for conservation projects statewide and engage volunteers to help grow the conservation movement. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board Ameri Corps (VHCB Ameri Corps). The VHCB Ameri Corps program supports the innovative dual‑goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape.

The Intervale Center’s mission is to strengthen community food systems that sustain farms, land, and people. The Nursery Operations Assistant will directly support the Intervale Conservation Nursery’s program to protect and steward the natural environment as the foundation of our food system. Their service will increase the number of native trees and shrubs grown and planted for statewide restoration projects to improve ecosystem health for Vermont’s vital watersheds.

The Nursery Operations Assistant will also engage hundreds of volunteers.

Position begins January 12, 2027 and ends December 10, 2027. This position is Full Time:
Requires 1720 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 11 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $31,000 (pre-tax), and an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.

• Lead and organize individuals and groups of volunteers
• Create workplans for interns and university-level students to engage in Nursery operations and meet educational goals
• Seed and cutting collection; plant propagation and green house service tasks
• Field maintenance including weeding, irrigation, transplant and harvest of native trees
• Land stewardship responsibilities including invasive species removal and beautification of the Intervale Center.
• Participate in all VHCB Ameri Corps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.
• Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
• Attending Intervale Center staff meetings as appropriate
• Coordinating with volunteer groups to facilitate smooth volunteer experience; tracking volunteer hours
• Participate in Disaster Relief Services and projects
