Midwifery and OB/GYN APP Lead – UVMMC at UVM Health - UVM Medical Center
University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) is seeking a seasoned, compassionate, and visionary Lead Midwife to champion our growing Midwifery Practice and OB/GYN APP team. Our Midwifery Service offers holistic, patient-centered care throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond, and collaborates as part of an academic medical center focused on education, quality improvement, and innovation.
As part of an academic medical center, our teams are engaged in clinical education, mentoring medical and APP learners, and fostering a culture of inquiry. We are launching a Midwifery Education Program to meet regional demand and cultivate midwifery leadership. This role provides leadership across clinical practice, scope of practice advocacy, research, education, consultation, and policy development aligned with UVMMC’s mission and the Department of Obstetrics, Midwifery, Gynecology and Reproductive Health.
This is a full-time exempt position (1.0 FTE) with a minimum of 0.3 FTE dedicated to administrative leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Excellence:
Maintain your own clinical practice while overseeing other APP personnel. - Leadership:
Provide guidance and mentorship to APPs, fostering growth and collaboration. - Collaboration:
Work with physicians, administrative staff, and site-based leaders to coordinate APP activities. - Education and QI/Research:
Facilitate educational initiatives and contribute to quality improvement and research efforts.
- Masters or Doctorate Degree
- Current Vermont license as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant
- National certification from an approved certifying body
- Current NRP and BLS certifications
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience
- Minimum 2 years progressive leadership responsibilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with clear, effective communication across disciplines and levels
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience in management roles
- Self-aware, proactive, and capable of independent initiative
- Maintains expertise in clinical specialty and supervisory competencies
- Familiarity with organizational policies, medical staff bylaws, and credentialing standards
