NICU Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - UVMMC
The neonatology team at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) in Burlington, Vermont is seeking a dedicated Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our NICU, the region's only neonatal intensive care unit where we work together to deliver coordinated, high quality care for newborns requiring intensive medical support.
What you’ll do- Deliver comprehensive inpatient neonatal care from birth through age two.
- Independently manage neonatal patient encounters with support appropriate to experience level.
- Participate in collaborative rounds with neonatologists, APPs, nursing, respiratory therapy, and allied health partners.
- Partner closely with multidisciplinary leadership to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- 1.0 FTE / 40 hours weekly
- 6 shifts per 2‑week pay period
- Days: 7:00 AM – 8:30 PM
- Nights: 6:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Optional 26‑hour shifts
- Weekend rotation:
Approximately every 3rd weekend (varied pattern) - No call requirements
- 100% inpatient; no travel to other locations
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
- NICU experience (as an RN or APP)
- New graduate NNPs and PAs with NICU background welcome
- Strong clinical judgment and effective communication
- Prior inpatient NICU APP experience
- Comfort working in a high‑acuity academic environment
- Healthy staffing and support – A well‑balanced team of experienced NICU APPs and neonatologists provides consistent collaboration and dependable support.

- Master’s degree required
- Current (or eligible) certification to practice as an APRN from the VT State Board of Nursing or as a PA from the VT State Board of Medical Practice
- Successful completion of an APRN or PA educational program recognized by the State of Vermont
- Completion of an ARCPA‑approved program (prior to January 2001 - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs)
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Completion of a master’s, post‑master’s, or doctorate from a CCNE or ACEN‑accredited nurse practitioner program
- Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body
