Registered Nurse (RN) - School Nurse
The RN in School Health provides comprehensive nursing care to students in educational settings, addressing acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and health surveillance.
The role includes health screenings, immunization coordination, emergency response, and collaboration with families, school staff, and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities- Provide on-site nursing care for acute illnesses and injuries; triage as needed.
- Administer medications, manage chronic conditions, and monitor students with care plans.
- Coordinate immunizations, health screenings, and referrals with families and communities.
- Develop and implement individualized health plans and emergency procedures for students with special needs.
- Educate students, families, and school staff on health promotion and disease prevention.
- Document incidents, treatments, and health assessments in the school health record and EHR.
- Coordinate with local health departments and healthcare providers for vaccination compliance.
Education:
BSN preferred; ADN acceptable with school health experience.
Licensure:
Current RN license in the state of practice.
Certifications:
- BLS
- PALS or school health certifications preferred
Experience or Skills:
Experience in pediatrics, school health, or community nursing; strong communication with students, families, and school staff.
Experience- Experience providing nursing care in school or pediatric settings.
- Experience with health screenings, immunizations, and care planning.
- Experience documenting in school health records and EHR.
- School nurse certification or pediatric certification
- Spanish or other language skills for diverse populations
School campus setting with regular school hours and occasional after-hours events or emergencies.
Collaborative with school administrators, teachers, and families; focus on student safety and wellness.
