The Burlington School District is seeking a qualified Social Worker who will proactively implement and support preventative interventions to close opportunity gaps and create a more inclusive school community. Such interventions would include promoting general well‑being of students, working with outside agencies to provide support to families, offering mentoring and suggestions for faculty and staff and developing and providing crisis intervention strategies to improve student success.

Essential

Functions
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and supports (individual and group) for students and families experiencing significant emotional/behavioral/environmental challenges in order to facilitate mental health and social emotional success and healing
  • Educate and consult with school staff around mental health issues
  • Work to maximize coping skills for students experiencing difficult situations, including facilitating student support groups based on identified needs
  • Collaborate around systems‑level interventions including Restorative Justice practices, truancy, and Social Emotional Learning through the lenses of mental health, equity, and social justice
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention
  • Maintain data and create quarterly data reports of students serviced in order to equitably serve students
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in a mental health discipline
  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
  • Endorsement in secondary level 54‑School Social Worker or eligible for Vermont Provisional License
  • Experience working with youth with mental health challenges
  • A Clinical License (LICSW, LCMHC) OR on the Roster of Non‑Licensed & Non‑certified Psychotherapists
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience working in a school‑based or youth‑serving setting, particularly at the secondary (high school) level
  • Demonstrated ability to support students through a trauma‑informed, strengths‑based, and culturally responsive lens
  • Experience facilitating individual and group counseling for adolescents
  • Strong understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and restorative practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, families, and community‑based agencies
  • Experience supporting students facing systemic barriers, including those related to race, disability, socioeconomic status, and other marginalized identities
  • Skill in crisis prevention, assessment, and intervention within a school environment
  • Comfort using data and documentation to monitor services, inform interventions, and support equitable decision‑making
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to consult, coach, and provide professional guidance to school staff
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning, reflection, and growth
