The Recreation Program Coordinator provides day-to-day program and operational support to the Recreation Program Manager during a transitional period. This role focuses on assisting with program planning and delivery, supervising seasonal staff, coordinating logistics, and ensuring recreation programs run smoothly, safely, and in alignment with department goals.

This position is ideal for a recreation professional who is hands‑on, highly organized, and comfortable stepping in to support multiple programs and staff while maintaining a positive, community‑centered approach.

Program Support & Implementation
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing recreation and leisure programs across multiple focus areas.
  • Support program delivery by leading or co‑leading programs and activities as needed.
  • Monitor participation, attendance, and overall program effectiveness; provide feedback to the Recreation Program Manager.
  • Ensure programs follow department safety standards, policies, and procedures.
Staff & Volunteer Support
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervising seasonal and temporary staff.
  • Serve as a point of contact for program staff during assigned programs or events.
  • Support staff scheduling and coverage to ensure adequate supervision.
Operations & Administration
  • Assist with program logistics, including supplies, equipment, transportation, and facility coordination.
  • Support fee collection and basic budget tracking in accordance with City policies.
  • Help prepare reports, attendance records, and program documentation.
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts following department guidelines.
Collaboration & Community Engagement
  • Support relationships with community partners, volunteers, and collaborating organizations.
  • Assist with special events and cross‑program initiatives as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and departmental planning as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Education, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • At least one (1) year of experience supporting recreation, youth, or community programs.
  • Experience supervising or supporting seasonal or part‑time staff preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within required timeframe.
