education and experience: equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of full-time experience in the operation of a variety of construction equipment. Must possess a valid /current nevada class a commercial driver's license with a tanker endorsement at time of application.

this position may include working alternate daytime or nighttime shifts, which may be for extended periods of time. May be called back to work in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous materials, paints, chemicals, solvents, sealants and fuels. Work with exposure to heavy traffic. Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

performs an operational and safety check of the equipment before use; checks fuel and fluid levels, air pressures, hydraulic systems and lubrication points; performs lubrication of essential parts. Performs minor adjustments and preventive maintenance and reports the need for major maintenance or repair. Operates a variety of heavy construction equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, scrapers, pavers, cranes and related equipment to cut road rough and finish road grades, make excavations, move earth, clear and construct drainage ditches, excavate trenches, load materials and perform similar work.

Drives varied trucks including dump trucks, patch truck, flush truck and chip sealer to move materials and equipment. Operates rollers, loaders and other medium weight equipment as required by the assignment. Ensures that tools, equipment, safety devices and materials required for the job are loaded prior to moving to the job site. Directs the work of a crew; ensures that work is completed in a safe and proper manner.

May use a variety of power equipment as a member of a crew such as air compressors, jackhammers, water pumps, sprayers, asphalt grinders and saw machines. Checks job sites for potential hazards; ensures that appropriate traffic control and warning devices are properly placed and safety equipment is worn. Secures equipment upon completion of the work. Maintains basic logs and records related to work performed.

Uses a variety of hand and power tools related to the work. Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as assigned. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Serves as a member of a crew and perform heavy physical labor as required.
