The department aims be effective and innovative in the teaching of mathematics and training future mathematicians in the state-of-the-art in our discipline. Our dynamic administrative team is welcoming and vital to the success of our academic and research programs.
Provides secretarial and administrative support services for the Department of Mathematics graduate programs. Acts as the primary contact and resource person for graduate students. Responds to requests for general information relating to graduate program admission, registration, courses, exams, grading, and departmental and University policies and procedures. Coordinates the process for graduate program admissions; processes scholarship and award applications; and assists the Graduate Program Committee members with graduate program preliminary progress reviews.
Assists departmental staff with maintaining the departmental website.
The ideal candidate for this position takes a people-centered approach to service, has demonstrated excellence in communicating effectively with diverse populations, and has experience balancing multiple tasks with outstanding attention to detail. We operate as a close team and look forward to welcoming a strong team player who builds effective relationships with colleagues and initiates improvements to processes.
QualificationsHigh School graduation and general courses or training of moderate duration (one semester equivalent) in word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications and office procedures and practices. 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
- Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Ability to use enterprise-level information systems (i.e., goSFU, goGRAD, GA3, Slate or equivalent).
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise mature judgment and communicate with tact and diplomacy.
