We organize exhibitions, public commissions, publications, residencies, and a diverse array of public programs, within the context of Simon Fraser University—a public research university known for its radical beginnings and commitment to community engagement and interdisciplinary research.

About

the Role

Coordinates the realization of special projects and publications at the Marianne and Edward Gibson Art Museum; coordinates in-house publishing and printed/online communication materials. coordinates public events relating to special projects and publications; maintains financial records, coordinates expenditures and reconciles expenditures to monthly commitment reports; liaises with commissioned artists and writers as directed; undertakes research as directed to support projects’ development as directed.

Additionally, welcomes visitors to gallery and as necessary sits the welcome desk and provides orientation and introduction to exhibitions; updates payroll.

Core competencies for this position include excellent knowledge of InDesign and other Adobe creative suite platforms; effective and clear communication (including actively listening, accurately reading non-verbal communication and successfully conveying information, thoughts and ideas with impact and influence); respectful and inclusive (contributing to a welcoming and inclusive university by valuing diversity and being open, compassionate and respectful); build relationships and work together (intentional about building and maintaining strong, positive and effective relationships, teams, collaborations).

Qualifications

High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal program equivalent, including courses or training in visual arts; accounting/bookkeeping procedures; editing; website, spreadsheet, database, Adobe Creative Suite, and desktop publishing applications. 3 years experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Excellent knowledge of contemporary museum or gallery administration practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of art gallery protocols and presentation techniques.
  • Ability to use word processing, art cataloguing/database, spreadsheet, e‑mail, and web development applications (e.g., Word, File Maker Pro, Excel, Dreamweaver, HTML) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use graphic design and desktop publishing applications (e.g., Adobe In-Design, Photoshop, and Illustrator) at an advanced level.
  • Ability to work independently.
