About the Role:Global News is seeking an exceptional journalist to anchor and report for Global National, the network’s award-winning flagship newscast, on a full-time, temporary 24-month contract.
The role will report to the Executive Producer, Global National in Burnaby. BC.
The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of impactful, impeccably crafted storytelling, strong editorial judgment, and innovative production skills.
This role requires a deep passion for news and the ability to collaborate within a high-performing team to translate complex issues into clear, compelling stories, both at the anchor desk and in the field. while excelling under tight deadlines.
A natural ideas-generator, the ideal candidate is driven by curiosity and has demonstrated success in telling meaningful Canadian stories that reflect diverse perspectives and voices.
This is a Group 5 position in accordance with the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:- Anchor the Saturday and Sunday editions of Global National, helping the team in the coverage of stories that uphold the highest journalistic standards.
- Ensure the program breaks news, advancing stories, and featuring fresh, compelling and diverse voices.
- Report for Global National three days a week, covering breaking news, delivering enterprise stories and pushing the boundaries of storytelling.
- Pitch original stories and treatments that are innovative and impactful.
- Participate in editorial meetings, fostering an environment of collaboration, creativity, debate and positive feedback.
- Degree or diploma in Journalism from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience anchoring and/or reporting for a daily television news program.
- Proven track record of impeccable storytelling, production skills, and editorial judgment, and making fast decisions in a high-pressure environment.
- Proven experience in diverse and inclusive storytelling.
- In-depth knowledge of politics and current affairs, both nationally and in BC.
- A role model who sets high editorial and ethical standards and represents best journalistic practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational and multitasking skills.
- An amazing attitude that will inspire, engage and motivate teams.
