Position Summary
BCIT’s Financial Services department is currently seeking a temporary, full‑time (1.0 FTE) Manager, Accounting Services. This role manages and maintains efficient operation of Accounting Services, develops and establishes accuracy and timeliness of accounts payable disbursements, oversees related policies and procedures adherence, financial reporting, and monitors systems data integrity including revenue accounting, financial reporting, and accounts payable.
Duties & Responsibilities- Contribute as a member of the financial services management team in the development of strategic financial planning for accounting services, consistent with BCIT’s mandate, mission, and objectives.
- Oversee banking services and monitor BCIT’s bank account balances, ensuring timely transfer of funds to avoid overdrafts and maximize investment opportunities.
- Manage accounting services requirements, including business processes for accounts payable, revenue accounting, and financial reporting, ensuring Institute policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensure the accuracy of the Institute’s general ledger by reviewing all banking, receivable, and payable reconciliations, running analysis reports, and processing necessary adjustments in accordance with GAAP.
- Support the Associate Director, Accounting and Reporting in managing financial reporting practices, overseeing the preparation of internal and external financial reports and consolidated statements.
- Manage revenue accounting and financial reporting, ensuring the Institute’s revenue collection and reporting meet statutory requirements and guidelines.
- Oversee the Institute’s cash handling procedures and internal controls, ensuring proper staff training and timely deposits in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage Accounts Payable, maintaining strong internal controls and ensuring compliance with statutory tax regulations and timely filing of remittances.
- Develop and lead the Institute’s payment and travel policies, training staff on changes and handling complex expense claims.
- Ensure staff testing of financial system changes and upgrades related to the unit’s area of responsibility to meet accounting requirements.
- Manage day‑to‑day activities of the accounting services team, selecting, developing, leading, and coaching staff to achieve optimum performance and support strategic objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, with a professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, or CA).
- Five years of current management, financial, or accounting experience, preferably in a unionized, post‑secondary, or public sector environment.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent leadership, time‑management, and organizational skills with ability to work in a unionized environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with demonstrated ability to work with all levels of a complex organization.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills to provide recommendations to management.
- Excellent detail‑oriented and critical‑thinking skills, with ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple and changing priorities.
- Strong self‑motivated team player with initiative and professional judgment.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems such as Banner and advanced Microsoft Office applications.
