Position Summary

Microserve is seeking a Controller to join our Finance team in a hybrid role based in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller is responsible for the integrity of the company’s financial reporting, the effectiveness of internal controls, and the leadership of the accounting function.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely financial information, maintaining compliance with Canadian accounting and statutory requirements, overseeing treasury and cash flow management, supporting ERP optimization, and enabling informed decision making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Close
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with ASPE and applicable Canadian statutory requirements.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of financial data across entities, business units, and reporting systems.
  • Lead year‑end audit processes and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Accounting Operations
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, revenue recognition, AP/AR oversight, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for new product lines, services, and business initiatives.
  • Review complex accounting judgments and estimates, ensuring appropriate documentation and governance.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
  • Oversee daily and medium-term cash management, including cash positioning, forecasting, and liquidity planning.
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Optimize working capital through effective management of receivables, payables, inventory, and billing cycles.
  • Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and covenant compliance.
  • Support capital allocation decisions, funding requirements, and scenario analysis related to liquidity and cash risk.
  • Establish controls and processes to safeguard cash, ensure appropriate authorization, and reduce treasury related risk.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve a strong internal control environment.
  • Develop and maintain accounting and treasury policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Identify financial, liquidity, and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with Finance leadership.
  • Support compliance with legislative, regulatory, and contractual financial requirements.
ERP & Process Optimization
  • Play a leadership role in ERP implementation, stabilization, and ongoing optimization of finance and treasury processes.
  • Drive standardization, automation, and efficiency improvements across accounting, reporting, and cash management workflows.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve data quality, reporting, and process integration.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance on accounting standards, internal controls, and best practices.
  • Support training initiatives related to ERP, accounting policies, treasury processes, and financial discipline.
Business Support & Collaboration
  • Partner with the VP Finance and senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Participate in financial and commercial reviews of contracts and agreements, with a focus on cash flow, risk, and margin impact.
  • Provide financial insight and decision support to operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Support ad‑hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation (required)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, assurance, controllership, or treasury related roles
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian statutory reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing cash flow, liquidity, and working capital
