About the Role

As the People & Culture Partner, you are an HR professional collaborating closely with all levels of management to align people initiatives with operational and strategic objectives in a fast-paced, unionized environment where priorities are fluid. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who enjoys day-to-day variety and thinking strategically to resolve people issues.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to understand strategic objectives and develop people solutions
  • Developing people policies aligned with collective agreements, legislation, and values
  • Workforce planning and full-cycle recruitment for all roles up to senior-level positions
  • Trusted advisor to leaders on performance, attendance, conflict, and people leadership
  • Lead employee relations matters – onboarding, joint labour/management meetings, investigations, corrective action, and terminations
  • Support workplace health, safety, and wellness initiatives
  • Manage leaves, accommodations, and return-to-work processes
  • Participate in labour relations, including grievances, discipline, and union discussions
  • Lead organizational talent development and people engagement
  • Analyze HR metrics to identify trends, identify risks and inform decisions

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a unionized setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or equivalent
  • CPHR designation is highly preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of provincial and federal employment law
  • Solid experience with labour relations, grievance handling, and investigations
  • Confidence coaching and influencing leaders at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and navigate through grey areas
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong ability to multitask and adapt to last-minute changes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The role requires discretion, political judgement, and a broad understanding of the labour movement in British Columbia.
  • Languages other than English is a desirable skill.

Pay range and compensation package
