Job Overview

Senior Labour and Employee Relations Advisor – permanent position in the Human Resources team at Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) in Burnaby, BC. The role supports business leaders in delivering people strategies within a complex, unionized environment and participates in the organization’s pay‑for‑performance program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and training to managers on employee and labour relations issues, HR policies, performance management, attendance, grievance and dispute resolution, progressive discipline, organisational changes, and collective agreement administration.
  • Assess employee pain points, develop solutions in consultation with managers, and review trends to recommend actions that enhance employee engagement.
  • Conduct investigations on employee relations matters such as discipline, work performance, attendance, bullying, harassment, and coordinate corrective behaviour.
  • Create employee communications and letters related to collective agreement administration.
  • Ensure employee adherence and compliance with policies and programmes related to Labour Relations strategy, collective agreement, labour codes, and recommend changes.
  • Support management through grievance and arbitration processes at all stages.
  • Track and report metrics on performance, absenteeism, and other labour relations matters, providing recommendations.
  • Review employee complaints and ensure timely, accurate documentation.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business with a major in Human Resources or equivalent discipline.
  • 5–8 years of experience in a Labour Relations capacity, advising managers on all employee relations matters in a unionised environment including performance management, discipline processes, grievance management, conflict resolution, and terminations.
  • Extensive knowledge of labour relations and related employment legislation and practice.
  • Preferred:
    Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or equivalent.
