Position Summary

The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is seeking a collaborative and people-focused leader to join our Student Affairs team as Manager, Student Representatives. This role leads a dynamic front-line service team that supports learners throughout their educational journey — from first inquiry to graduation — while helping shape a responsive, inclusive, and student-centered environment across a diverse range of programs.

Working within a highly collaborative post-secondary setting, the successful candidate will play a key role in balancing institution-wide service standards with the unique operational needs of specialized education and training divisions.

This position is ideal for an experienced post-secondary leader who thrives in complex environments and enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and driving service excellence. The Manager will oversee a multi-level unionized team, lead operational planning and service delivery initiatives, and partner closely with registration, student services, and education teams to enhance the learner experience. The role also contributes to institutional planning through data-informed decision making, continuous improvement initiatives, and thoughtful leadership of sensitive or complex student matters.

JIBC is looking for a leader who brings a strong understanding of student services within a post-secondary environment, paired with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization. This is an opportunity to influence meaningful organizational change, support staff development, and contribute to a culture that values collaboration, accountability, and innovation in public safety education.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, administration, educational leadership, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a student service function within a post secondary environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience leading multi-level teams and managing and engaging people in a unionized environment; demonstrated experience leading in an organization with dotted-line functional reporting is preferred
  • Experience in post-secondary registration and/or academic advising
  • Experience in process improvement and/or change management would be an asset
  • Strong and confident decision-maker, with the ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Proven ability to motivate and engage teams, while driving performance outcomes
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative approach to relationship building and internal customer service
  • Ability to influence others, and effectively manage multiple and conflicting needs between stakeholder groups
  • Deep understanding of the student experience and a proactive approach to ensuring all interactions are respectful, inclusive, timely, and solutions-focused
  • Ability to drive innovation in practices and support teams through change
  • Established practices for monitoring trends and maintaining professional expertise
  • Business and financial acumen, with demonstrated ability to set plans, manage improvement initiatives, and manage budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement change, resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials and situations with the utmost discretion
  • Models respectful and inclusive workplace behaviours, and demonstrates a commitment to meaningful outcomes in diversity, equity, and Indigenization
