The Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) supports university planning and decision-making through the collection, analysis and interpretation of institutional data. The team provides reporting, projections and analysis related to enrolment planning, academic planning and performance measurement. IRP also supports university-wide data governance, survey and research initiatives, and institutional reporting to senior administration, Senate, the Board of Governors and government.

The office works closely with Faculties, academic departments and administrative units, senior leaders and external partners to provide reliable information that supports planning and informed decision-making across SFU.

Job Description About the Role

The Executive Director, Institutional Research and Planning is responsible for directing the University's Office of Institutional Research and Planning, providing data analyses and modeling for the University's strategic planning, and contributing to the evaluation and development of institutional policy by identifying issues, analyzing trends and projecting outcomes to support and inform policy decisions by the University's senior administration. The Executive Director designs and oversees the collection, analysis and interpretation of data and the dissemination of reports, proposals and recommendations necessary to support institutional enrollment management and planning, academic planning, academic budget allocations and space planning.

The role represents the Vice-President, Academic both within the University community and to external constituencies.

Qualifications

Master's degree and a minimum of ten years of experience in institutional research or a cognate area within a university environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of research methodologies and survey techniques; statistical methods; data collection, reduction and analysis techniques.
  • Superior quantitative, qualitative, analytical and problem-solving skills; computer systems and programming skills.
  • Excellent leadership, operational management, supervisory, team building and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of people including clerical, professional, management, and executive personnel both within and outside the University.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
