INDIGENOUS RELATIONS ADVISOR:

$86,007.24 - $97,679.59 (Annually)

Reporting to the Director Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Advisor is responsible for promoting and facilitating partnerships and developing engagement strategies to address Indigenous housing needs and capacity building within the Indigenous sector. He/she/they performs research and analysis to support the development of programs and initiatives to strengthen Indigenous engagement and consultation. The position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions.

CANDIDATE

PROFILE:
The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy and Planning, Social Sciences, with a focus in Indigenous Relations Studies or a relevant field.
  • Considerable experience in Indigenous consultation and engagement, capacity building and community development.
  • Considerable experience working with Indigenous associations and non-profit societies in the delivery of social housing services and community-based programs.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
  • Criminal record check required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Works closely with the Director, Indigenous Relations and other key internal stakeholders, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions with whom BC Housing partners, including consultation and negotiation discussions with First Nations related to the delivery of BC Housing programs and services. Identifies new areas for partnerships, collaboration and joint initiatives with other organizations and Indigenous communities where BC Housing can have a positive impact on the community, e.g., capacity building and responding to local housing needs.
  • Oversees and facilitates the execution of Indigenous Relationship agreements between BC Housing and Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions.
