Ausenco – Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada – Lead Marine Biologist

Ausenco is a fast‑growing global consulting and engineering company. We’re seeking a Lead Marine Biologist to join our Environmental Planning and Ecology Business line in the Burnaby office.

Responsibilities
  • Design, lead marine studies and prepare technical reports.
  • Develop scopes of work, work breakdown structures and budgets for proposals.
  • Provide technical and regulatory expertise (provincial, territorial and federal) for projects that interact with marine environments.
  • Lead and participate in marine science programs, including fieldwork along coastal environments.
  • Lead or coordinate components of regulatory approvals.
  • Design offset projects through collaborations with Ausenco engineers and community engagement professionals.
  • Manage projects, scopes of work and budgets from proposals through delivery of quality reports.
  • Manage or contribute to the compilation and writing of regulatory submissions at a leadership level.
  • Review others’ work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Market Ausenco’s full range of services to existing and potential clients through your work and other business development opportunities.
  • liaise with clients, regulatory agencies and Indigenous peoples.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff.
  • Champion safety and quality daily.
Qualifications
  • University degree in biology or a related field.
  • Professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for a designation.
  • 10+ years experience leading and conducting marine biology and/or ocean science programs.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing and contributing to regulatory documents in British Columbia, including Environmental Assessment reports and Fisheries Act authorisations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to communicate complex ideas to audiences with varying scientific literacy.
  • Advanced understanding of ecological methods and statistics, demonstrated experience interpreting complex data sets.
  • Working knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R) for ecological data analysis, visualisation and interpretation.
  • Previous experience leading teams within a consultancy practice.
  • Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self‑motivated and exhibit strong work initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast‑paced work environment.
