Job Description
The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician (I&E Tech) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing,
troubleshooting, and repair of all plant instrumentation, control systems, electrical machinery, and related auxiliary equipment, all while strictly adhering to the highest safety standards.
- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation, electrical, and control systems, including continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS), transmitters, analyzers, control valves, controllers, PLCs, and protective relays.
- Maintain and support power generation and plant auxiliary equipment, including boiler, steam turbine and generator, by analyzing and resolving complex system issues to minimize downtime.
- Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control system drawings, technical manuals, and blueprints to perform corrective maintenance, overhauls, and system improvements in accordance with codes and standards.
- Prevent equipment breakdowns by monitoring instrumentation drift, alarm patterns, and operational signals, utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment for precise testing and calibration.
- Manage maintenance documentation via the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate logging of tasks, work orders, parts usage, and time allocation.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering teams, and external contractors during installations, start-ups, and shutdowns; communicate equipment status and safety concerns clearly to all stakeholders.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety standards, including LOTO, confined space entry, hot work permits, Field Level Risk Assessments, and OHS regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and support continuous improvement and change management initiatives.
- Candidates must hold an Interprovincial/Red Seal Trade Qualification as an Industrial Electrician and/or Instrumentation and Control Technician. A minimum of five years of experience in industrial environments-such as power generation, chemical processing, 1 Standard JD Template Revised Date:
August 2019 or pulp and paper facilities-is required. Relevant additional certifications and qualifications are considered assets. - Strong technical knowledge of electrical (LV/MV/HV) and instrumentation & control systems, including voltage/current principles
- Proficiency in programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems.
- Expertise in inspecting, diagnosing, and calibrating process instrumentation using multimeters, loop calibrators, and diagnostic tools.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electrical/instrumentation issues and implement effective corrective actions while adhering to safety policies.
- Demonstrated skill in estimating time and material requirements for projects.
- Proficient in utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for documentation and workflow
- Highly organized with strong planning and problem-solving abilities; capable of managing multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborative team player with a strong focus on adaptability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Schedule:
4-day work weeks with 9-hour shifts on a rotating schedule across 3 teams to ensure 7-day operational coverage.
Salary: 61.16$/h
The role necessitates working both indoors and outdoors for prolonged and frequent periods, exposing the individual to all weather conditions and extremes, as well as a waste environment.
