The Role

Role OverviewThis is a full time, permanent field position. The primary responsibility of the Reactive Gas Engineer is to maintain, service, and repair heating and hot water systems across both commercial and domestic properties, with a strong focus on commercial environments such as schools. You will respond promptly to system faults, ensure safe operation, and deliver high-quality customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Service, maintain, and repair gas systems and appliances in commercial and domestic settings.
- Diagnose faults and carry out reactive repairs to minimise downtime.
- Conduct inspections to identify risks, defects, or safety hazards.
- Repair or replace faulty components and equipment.
- Test systems for leaks and ensure full compliance with gas safety regulations.
- Commission boilers and heating systems, including strip‑down and reassembly.
- Work with a range of technologies, including:
- UFH (Underfloor Heating)
- ASHP (Air Source Heat Pumps)
- GSHP (Ground Source Heat Pumps)
- Provide technical advice and support to clients on system use and maintenance.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve efficient project delivery.
- Maintain all required Health & Safety documentation (Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH).
- CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1 (Commercial qualifications desirable).
- CSCS card (preferred).
- Proven experience working on both commercial and domestic gas systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of heating and hot water systems.
- Ability to assemble components and use power tools safely and effectively.
- Plumbing experience.
- Proficient with basic calculations and measurements.
- Familiarity with relevant hand tools and safe working practices.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Must pass a DBS check prior to employment.
- Experience working in school environments or similar commercial settings.
- Knowledge of renewable heating technologies (ASHP/GSHP – Preferred).
- Ability to manage reactive workloads independently.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and customer‑service skills.
