Description
About Cheddaris a mobile buying business that sources great-value products and routes them to our team for pickup, shipping, and resale. This role sits at the center of our buying engine—finding the deals, working the seller, and coordinating the handoff to our field team/logistics.
The RoleWe’re hiring a dedicated Marketplace Sourcing Specialist whose job is to shop Facebook Marketplace and other platforms nationwide to find high-demand products we can buy and resell. You’ll message sellers, negotiate, validate condition/value, and set up Cheddar Deals for our field team to pick up locally or have sellers ship to us.
This is not casual browsing. This is fast, organized, high-volume deal-making.
What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities)1) Source profitable inventory daily
- Hunt for deals across Facebook Marketplace and other resale channels (local and nationwide)
- Build a pipeline of “buy targets” by category, brand, condition, seasonality, and sell-through speed
2) Evaluate value, risk, and resale potential
- Quickly estimate resale value and margin after fees, shipping, labor, and risk.
- Spot red flags (missing parts, counterfeit risk, damaged/locked electronics, etc.)
- Decide: Buy / Pass / Counteroffer with confidence
3) Communicate + negotiate with sellers
- Message sellers professionally, clearly, and persistently (without being pushy)
- Negotiate price, confirm key details, and lock in pickup/shipping plans
- Keep deals moving and reduce ghosting/cancellations
4) Coordinate Cheddar Deals for pickup or shipping
- For deals: create a clean deal brief for our field team (location, contact, price, item notes, risks)
- For out-of-area deals: coordinate seller shipping (packing expectations, shipping label process if we provide it, tracking, ETA)
5) Track everything
- Maintain accurate deal tracking in a shared system
- Record comps, offer history, seller status, pickup/shipping status, and final outcome
- Deal volume: qualified deals sourced per day/week
- Conversion rate: sourced and purchased
- Gross profit / margin: per deal and overall (after costs)
- Cycle time: post found, deal secured, and pickup/shipping scheduled
- Cancellation/return rate: lower is better (quality sourcing + good verification)
- Strong experience using Facebook Marketplace (and similar resale platforms) to buy/sell/source
- Excellent written communication (you’ll be negotiating all day)
- Proven judgment on pricing/condition/value—knowing what something will realistically resell for
- Comfortable with fast-paced workflow, lots of open conversations, and follow-ups
- Solid organization skills (tracking dozens of active leads)
- Basic spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets / Excel)
- Online arbitrage, resale sourcing, e-commerce buying, pawn/secondhand, or procurement background
- Familiar with common resale categories (electronics, tools, outdoor equipment, gaming, jewelry, etc.)
- Shipping/logistics knowledge (packaging expectations, carrier options, fraud prevention)
- Speed + accuracy in evaluating deals
- Negotiation and objection handling
- Detail orientation (condition, model numbers, versions, missing accessories)
- Fraud/scam awareness on marketplaces
- Team coordination (handoff to field team must be clean)
