Position Overview
Hours:
8:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Days: 2–3 days a week (Wednesday, Friday, plus one more)
Compensation: $19.00 per hour
AVID Tutors support the AVID elective class by guiding collaborative study groups, providing organization and critical thinking support, and generally developing relationships with students that foster a connectedness to school and the school community. Tutors will help students learn academic strategies, critical thinking, collaboration, reading, note‑taking, study skills, and organization, and will answer questions on difficult topics. They also help students explore potential careers and visit colleges and universities.
AVIDGoals
- Support students in rigorous coursework
- Teach academic and social skills not targeted in other classes
- Provide intensive support with in‑class tutors and a strong student/teacher relationship
- Create a positive peer group for students
- Develop a sense of hope and personal achievement through hard work and determination
- Experience with AVID or working in an academic setting highly preferred.
