Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate for the Dean position will provide leadership and build systems to support staff, schools, and the district in increasing appropriate instructional capacity that allows all students to meet or exceed expected growth each year, graduate from high school, and eliminate predictability in achievement through practices of educational equity. This position will assist the Principal Team in leading the building's efforts in creating a culturally competent and racially inclusive learning environment so that all students are successful.

The individual will also assist the leadership team in leading the design and implementation of the district's instructional delivery and professional development in alignment with the district's operational plan and individual school improvement plans. The individual will also assist the leadership team in leading the design and implementation of the district's instructional methodology and professional development programs aligned with the district operational plan.

Actively support district planning and improvement processes.

  • Assist teachers, parents and students in resolving academic and non-academic student issues in the school.
  • Maintains records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and District policies.
  • Confers with parents, teachers, support services personnel and students on matters of discipline and problem solving.
  • Provides mentoring services to students and consultation services to parents.
  • Reports to administrators, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance.
  • Recommends appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems.
  • Instructs and advises students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, to foster a safe school environment, and to respect other individuals and property.
  • Assists in arranging for appropriate tutorial instruction related to assigned academic work.
  • Assists administrators, teachers, and school attendance staff in addressing student attendance problems.
  • Assists in the administration of the In-School Suspension Program.
  • Arranges meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems in school.
  • Counsels individual students as needed and makes appropriate referrals for testing, guidance or other services.
  • Coordinates with community and government agencies relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, and other conduct.
  • Assists in developing policies and practices to assure building security and safety.
  • Assists in the preparation of student expulsion hearings.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc.
  • Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
License / Education Requirements
  • Valid Minnesota Teaching license required. Secondary administrative and teaching experience and Principal license preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Experience
  • Successful experience working with children at risk.
  • Successful experience developing and implementing professional development programs relating to non-academic student behavioral issues preferred.
