Overview
Our Sensors Test Engineering team in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking a Principal Electrical & Electronics Engineer (P4) to join our team of experienced engineers and technicians supporting production. In this role, you will lead in defining, designing, developing, troubleshooting, and integrating innovative test solutions supporting commercial and military sensor products. You will direct engineering strategy, architecture, and complex projects across multiple teams and at various stages of their life cycle, mentor staff, and align technical goals with business objectives.
WhatYou Will Do
- You will lead researching, designing, developing, and testing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks as well as resolving day‑to‑day technical problems by troubleshooting electrical devices problems on the production line.
- You will provide strategic guidance for engineering regarding design concepts and requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques across test engineering.
- You will complete and release drawings, designs, electrical schematics, and wirelist/BOMs as required per formal change management procedures.
- You will work in a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with engineers, operators, and technicians.
- You will design and review major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototype test systems, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.
- You will coach and mentor staff and align technical goals with business objectives.
- You will develop processes, procedures, and best practices for test equipment design and development in a manufacturing environment.
- You will serve as the subject matter expert for hardware related questions and peer reviews.
- You will gain knowledge to adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions; design electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
- You will learn to lead the life cycle development of test equipment and test systems in a manufacturing environment.
- You will learn identification and proposals for modernization of test equipment conducting independent research and analyses.
- You will learn to work as a team to solve the most difficult problems in manufacturing design.
- You will learn how to develop engineering strategies and technical roadmaps for senior leadership.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Strong understanding of Electronics and Electrical design and safety.
- Familiarity with CAD modeling software, preferably Solid Works or Creo.
- Hands‑on mentality with a curiosity to understand how components interact in a system.
- Familiarity with an aerospace manufacturing environment and AS9100.
- Familiarity with standard avionics buses including 1553, ARINC, CAN, RS485, RS232, and 1394.
- Familiarity with ALM JIRA project management (Agile).
- Able to function at a high level with multiple tasks and projects, and to effectively change direction based upon business needs.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
