Our Sensors Test Engineering team in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking a Principal Electrical & Electronics Engineer (P4) to join our experienced engineers and technicians supporting production. In this role you will lead the design, development, troubleshooting, and integration of innovative test solutions for commercial, military, and defense sensor products, directing engineering strategy, architecture, and complex projects across multiple teams.
What You Will Do- Lead research, design, development, and testing of electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks, resolving day‑to‑day technical problems on the production line.
- Provide strategic guidance for engineering regarding design concepts and requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques across test engineering.
- Complete and release drawings, designs, electrical schematics, and wirelist/BOMs as required per formal change management procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, and technicians in a team environment.
- Design and review major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototype test systems, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.
- Coach and mentor staff, aligning technical goals with business objectives.
- Develop processes, procedures, and best practices for test equipment design and development in a manufacturing environment.
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for hardware‑related questions and peer reviews.
- Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions, designing electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
- Lead the life‑cycle development of test equipment and test systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Identify and propose modernization of test equipment through independent research and analysis.
- Work collaboratively to solve complex manufacturing design problems.
- Develop engineering strategies and technical roadmaps for senior leadership.
- Typically requires a STEM degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of experience, or in the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Strong understanding of electronics and electrical design and safety.
- Familiarity with CAD modeling software, preferably Solid Works or Creo.
- Hands‑on mentality with curiosity to understand component interactions in a system.
- Familiarity with an aerospace manufacturing environment and AS9100.
- Familiarity with standard avionics buses, including 1553, ARINC, CAN, RS485, RS232, and 1394.
- Familiarity with ALM JIRA project management (Agile).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and to adjust direction based on business needs.

Salary range: 107,500 USD – 204,500 USD.
