IPS Engineer
Job Description
The IPS Engineer (Integrated Logistics Support Analyst) plays a key role in sustaining complex systems throughout their life cycle by organizing, analyzing, and managing provisioning and supportability data. This position serves as a technical liaison between engineering teams, technical writers, and technical artists, ensuring that Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) requirements are accurately captured, documented, and delivered through Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) submissions.
The role focuses on understanding how hardware is used and maintained in the field, identifying real-world issues that may be overlooked in design, and driving policies, guidelines, and procedures that improve reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, and overall supportability.
Responsibilities
+ Support the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) team, including engineers, technical writers, technical artists, and leadership, with tasks related to system sustainment throughout the product life cycle.
+ Prepare accurate and complete information for inclusion in ILS Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) documents for submission to government customers, ensuring timely processing.
+ Organize ILS data in a content management (CM) database and ensure CM processes and standards are consistently followed.
+ Assume ownership and technical management of ILS provisioning and component information to produce downstream reports such as Source of Supply, Selected Item Drawings, Marking Plans, and related documentation.
+ Provide technical input and act as an engineering liaison between design, systems engineering, and the ILS team, with no direct design responsibilities.
+ Serve as a technical expert for technical writers and artists who develop Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals for hardware used by the Department of Defense.
+ Support ILS leadership with administrative duties including preparing presentations, attending and contributing to meetings, and assisting in task book development.
+ Maintain and communicate clear status updates for all active projects and manage metrics that reflect project health and progress.
+ Provide provisioning support related to Lowest Replaceable Unit (LRU) data and maintain status of Diminishing Material Supply and Material Shortages (DMSMS) for LRUs.
+ Lead the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures that enhance supportability, reliability, safety, and life cycle performance of systems.
+ Provide subject matter expertise in supportability analysis domains such as Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Suitability, Environmental and hazardous material requirements, Total Ownership Cost, Life Cycle Cost, and Reliability Centered Maintenance.
+ Participate in the systems engineering process from design inception through the full life cycle to influence design for supportability and maximize availability, effectiveness, and capability.
+ Analyze, organize, plan, and administer various phases of day-to-day provisioning, spares planning, and maintenance/repair activities.
+ Participate in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analysis sessions and provisioning conferences, providing technical and logistical insight.
+ Provide technical and programmatic support for DMSMS and obsolescence management, helping to mitigate risks associated with aging or unavailable components.
+ Develop, review, and provide supportability analyses, including metrics such as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), for inclusion in CDRL submissions.
+ Develop, review, and provide safety analyses such as System Safety Hazard Analysis Reports (SSHARs), including supporting information and remedial action recommendations.
+ Analyze contractual documents, engineering drawings, technical data, customer usage data, maintenance practices, operational characteristics, and related reports to determine spares provisioning and maintenance/repair strategies.
+ Perform data provisioning by analyzing engineering drawings and understanding how they impact the end user, maintaining a clear view of the overall system and its real-world use.
+ Review approximately 150 designs and conceptualize how to disassemble and reassemble components, identifying practical issues that may be overlooked by design and pinpointing drawing errors.
+ Field questions from technical writers and other cross-functional team members, providing clear, concise, and technically accurate guidance.
+ Apply quality and reliability principles to identify subjective faults, failure modes, and areas for improvement in repair and maintenance strategies.
+ Continuously develop and maintain skills and knowledge required for the position and align work with organizational goals and objectives.
+ Work collaboratively with co-workers, contractors, and customers in a highly cross-functional environment.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), provisioning, spares planning, or…
