Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Med‑Surg/Oncology unit in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN. This position is a 0.6 FTE, working 48 hours per 2‑week pay period. It involves 8‑hour shifts, alternating weekend rotations (Fri, Sat, Sun), and day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Nursing Assistant assists the professional nurse/caregiver in delivering patient care, transporting patients or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and reordering and stocking supplies. The role is supervised by a professional nurse.
Assignments are based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager or charge nurse.
- Provide basic patient care: personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, oral hygiene.
- Collect specimens and perform testing.
- Assist with patient positioning, ambulation, changing linens, and promptly respond to call lights.
- Monitor patient condition and assist the nurse; accurately take and record weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, respiration, and oxygen saturation.
- Place and remove patients on/off monitors or equipment.
- Report unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
- Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges; orient patients and families to the environment.
- Ensure patients’ belongings are accounted for and documented on admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies; ensure patients arrive at appointments on time.
- Use transfer belt for patient transfers and ambulation.
- Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment.
- Order and stock supplies, accurately document tasks performed on the appropriate form.
- Perform other tasks as needed.
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview‑sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long‑term, home‑care, or acute‑care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, with completion of at least one semester of clinical rotation.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position).
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required;
OnTrack participants must obtain BLS certification upon completion of the program.
