Overview
As a Seasonal Maintenance II – Heart of the City worker, you will assist with park maintenance and safely operate City vehicles and equipment while taking on more advanced responsibilities and working independently. Ideal candidates will have experience in park maintenance or a related field. Burnsville’s Heart of the City is a vibrant, 54-acre downtown district featuring Nicollet Commons Park, pedestrian-friendly spaces, and year-round community events.
The work of the Public Works Department touches the lives of residents and visitors every day by maintaining City streets, parks, forestry, and water and stormwater systems.
This is a non-exempt (hourly) position with a starting wage range of $17.42–$20.78 per hour, depending on qualifications. Both full-time and part-time hours are available. Full-time hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Seasonal Maintenance II - Heart of the City worker values people and perspectives by:
- Assisting with maintaining Heart of the City and Nicollet Commons Park for the use and enjoyment of the community.
- Perform maintenance on athletic fields, beaches, playgrounds, picnic areas, and outdoor ice rinks.

- Assist with mowing, turf maintenance, and weed trimming.
- Provide winter support such as snow removal, ice rink flooding, and shoveling sidewalks/trails.
And they expect the best by:
- Safely operate city vehicles, including pickup trucks, 4WD trucks with plows, carts, and small 4-wheel vehicles for snow removal.
- Assisting staff with various parks maintenance practices.
Qualifications
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- A valid Class D Driver’s License and eligibility to obtain.
- Must have park or other relevant experience.
- A background or interest in local government work serving the community.
- An interest in developing what you do best and a commitment to valuing each colleague for their unique perspectives.
