Sr. Project Engineer – Controls/Electrical
Mars – Join our Mars Wrigley North America Controls, Automation, and Digital engineering team. This Regional Project Engineering role involves planning and executing projects from ideation to closure, leading and/or supporting large capital projects across electrical, controls, Factory IT, physical automation, and Digital Plant Technology systems. The position is based in either Yorkville, IL or Burr Ridge, IL.
Key Responsibilities- Develop control systems for automating manufacturing processes and packaging systems.
- Deliver projects that provide a competitive advantage and meet business objectives.
- Design control systems, including concepts, functional, and equipment specifications.
- Direct modifications, installation, and integration of systems such as electrical power distribution, Factory IT, and digital plant technologies.
- Ensure delivery of project objectives for scope, time, budget, and cash flow.
- Maintain adherence to project scope, deliverables, and critical success factors.
- Communicate with the project steering team to achieve objectives.
- Apply appropriate technologies to gain and sustain technical competitive advantage.
- Make decisions that improve business metrics such as ROTA, FATR, and EP.
- Design systems, select hardware, and direct third‑party engineering or system integrators to meet contract deliverables.
- Participate in the development of engineering standards and tools.
- Support safety, security, and environmental policies.
- Maximize asset utilization through value‑added engineering and lean design.
- Directly manage all assigned project work.
- Support the Five Principles, Vision to Win, and the Winning Environment.
- Plan and lead project activities in a cross‑functional team environment.
- Contribute to the growth and effectiveness of the Regional Controls, Automation, and Digital team.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or a relevant Engineering discipline.
- 5–10+ years of experience in a comparable technical position within the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or related industry.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and disciplines such as Process, Packaging, Electrical, Controls, Automation, Construction, and/or Computer Services.
- In‑depth knowledge of a designated functional engineering area (e.g., controls, process, packaging).
- Up to 50% travel may be required.
- Additional degree in Controls/Electrical/Electronics with coursework in Computer Science or an advanced Engineering degree.
- MBA or PMP certification.
- >8+ years of experience in a comparable technical position within the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or related industry.
- Experience specifically in the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical sector.
