MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER

SUMMARY

To provide student instruction in the appropriate content area(s). Expectations include efforts to contribute toward the development of all students as mature, able, and responsible citizens.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To maintain a high level of professionalism both during and outside the regular school day.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Develop hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning experiences that promote scientific thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Plan and deliver engaging science instruction aligned with state academic standards.
  • Promote the use of technology in applicable areas.
  • Provides multiple methods of formative and standardized assessments in order to develop and revise effective teaching strategies for all students.
  • Encourages all students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
  • Is physically able to navigate the classroom, manage classroom behavior, and administer emergency first aid within the classroom.
  • Guides the learning process toward achievement of student growth models, curriculum goals and—in harmony with goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the ability to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to improve student achievement.
  • Understands the process and importance of data collection and the use of data to support student learning.
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth through appropriate data and reports.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
  • Is available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To supervise classroom and students within the classroom, the school building, and in additional situations as stipulated within the Bendle Education Association Master Agreement.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree and or appropriate credentials as required though federal, state, and local law, rules, and guidelines.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Teaching Certificate and or certification(s) required through federal, state, and local law, rules and guidelines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Must possess ability to read, analyze, and interpret communications, curricular materials, professional journals, procedural manuals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and all other essential documentation. Must possess a high degree of communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from all stakeholders.
ABILITY
  • Must possess ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must possess ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; including ability to plan and implement lessons based on federal, state, and district objectives, as well as the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
