HVAC Technician
The HVAC Technician handles service calls from commercial customers, diagnosing and resolving HVAC-related issues across multiple sites. In addition to service work, the technician may perform new construction and installation projects, including setting up and commissioning a variety of HVAC systems. This role involves traveling to different customer locations, communicating clearly with customers about issues and solutions, and completing high-quality repairs and installations in commercial and multifamily environments.
Responsibilities- Respond to service calls from commercial customers and accurately diagnose HVAC-related issues.
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting on a wide range of HVAC systems, including RTUs, DOAS, VRF, VFD, split systems, chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and hydronic systems.
- Complete installation work for new construction projects, including HVAC equipment, piping, mechanical components, and refrigeration systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation to plan and execute installations and repairs.
- Install, service, and maintain HVAC systems in commercial and multifamily properties, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Handle refrigerants safely and in accordance with EPA Universal certification requirements.
- Perform electrical work related to HVAC systems, including wiring, connections, and component replacement.
- Troubleshoot and repair boilers and associated mechanical systems as needed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers to explain findings, recommended repairs, and maintenance options.
- Drive to various customer sites using a company vehicle and maintain a professional presence at all times.
- Document work performed, parts used, and system conditions to support accurate records and follow-up service.
- Collaborate with construction teams and other technicians on new build and renovation projects.
- Follow safety protocols and best practices on commercial construction sites and in occupied buildings.
- Minimum of 5 years of HVAC experience, including troubleshooting and installing HVAC systems.
- Hands-on experience with electrical work related to HVAC systems.
- Proficiency working with refrigeration systems and refrigerants.
- Experience servicing and installing RTUs, DOAS, VRF, VFD, split systems, chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and hydronic systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical HVAC issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for HVAC construction and installation projects.
- Experience in commercial construction environments and multifamily or commercial HVAC applications.
- EPA Universal certification.
- Eligibility to drive a company vehicle, with a clean and reliable driving record.
- Ability to work independently at customer sites and manage time effectively.
- Clear and professional communication skills when interacting with customers and team members.

- Experience with piping installation for HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Background working with boilers and associated mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC system installation best practices in new construction settings.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems in commercial and multifamily properties.
- Comfort working with various HVAC technologies and adapting to new equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with construction crews and other technicians.

WorkEnvironment
The role is based primarily in commercial construction and commercial building environments, with work also performed in multifamily properties. You travel between customer sites using a company vehicle, working both indoors and outdoors depending on the project and system location. Typical work involves active construction sites and existing commercial facilities, where you use standard HVAC tools, electrical testing equipment, and mechanical installation gear.
The setting is hands-on and field-based, requiring adherence to safety protocols, appropriate workwear for construction sites, and the ability to navigate busy commercial environments while performing service and installation tasks.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burton, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
