Medical Director – Montana Chemical Dependency Center )

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Montana Chemical Dependency Center (MCDC). MCDC is the only in‑patient chemical dependency treatment center administered by the State of Montana. It provides medically monitored detoxification and treatment services to individuals 18 years or older diagnosed with substance use disorders. The center is licensed for 48 beds.

Responsibilities
  • Provide primary medical care and manage medical services for patients with addictive disorders.
  • Lead the medical treatment team to ensure compliance with state laws, ASAM standards, and Montana regulations for patient safety and treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Medicine (MD) and current licensure as a physician in the State of Montana.
  • Five years of physician experience, including two years in the field of addictions.
  • Current Montana license to prescribe medications.
  • Equivalent combinations of practicing physician experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Addictionology certification by ASAM.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Work takes place in a health care setting and requires the incumbent to respond to urgent situations and emergency conditions. The position involves detoxification, tolerating treatment, managing treatment resistance, and intervening to de‑escalate or redirect patients. The role must be available to respond to work‑related issues outside normal hours and on‑call as necessary.
