The Biology Department at Montana Technological University is seeking applicants for a tenure track assistant professor position. The department seeks an individual with expertise in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or another closely related discipline. Primary teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to microbiology, immunology, virology, as well as development of courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a research program geared towards peer-review publications and involvement of undergraduate students.

Education and Experience
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or ABD (completion of Ph.D. required by position start date) in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or in a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience, those with university teaching experience as the instructor of record, and those with College/University teaching experience in microbiology, virology, immunology or molecular biology courses.
The ideal candidate will have good interdisciplinary skills and the ability to interact comfortably with colleagues in a collaborative education environment.

Duties:
Primary duties for this position include teaching a range of courses and labs that may include but are not limited to:
Microbiology, Immunology, and Virology. The normal teaching expectation is 9 credits/ semester plus active research. Course development in the candidate's area of expertise is expected.
Student mentoring and research are expected. The candidate is expected to develop research with mutual goals of peer-reviewed publications and undergraduate student involvement. Efforts to secure external funding are expected. Additional student mentoring is expected for senior research/thesis projects, some of which may be developed independently by the student. Duties also extend to include active contribution to the department and campus in the form of service, examples of which include but are not limited to: advising, assisting in department events, recruiting new students, advising student clubs, serving on campus-wide committees.
Required Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. or ABD (completion of Ph.D. required by position start date) in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or in a closely related discipline;
Teaching or TA experience at the College/University Level; effective oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated potential for establishing an independent, externally-funded research program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-doctoral experience. College/University teaching experience as instructor of record. College/University teaching experience in microbiology, virology, immunology or molecular biology courses. Demonstrable success at writing grants, obtaining external funding, supporting students, and publishing research results is also preferred
