Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non‑tenure‑track level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and will be maintained in the pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re‑submit materials for continued consideration.
Appointments are part‑time and vary in duration: a couple of weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and duration.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructors will typically teach:
- CRWR 240RA:
Introduction to Creative Writing - CRWR 310:
Intermediate Fiction Workshop - CRWR 311:
Intermediate Poetry Workshop - CRWR 312:
Intermediate Creative Nonfiction Workshop (or OR)
- A master’s degree in English or a closely related field.
- Successful experience teaching college writing or literature courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to the practice of creative writing.
- M.F.A. or Ph.D. in creative writing.
- Experience teaching creative writing courses.
- Record of publishing creative works.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching toward program‑wide student learning outcomes applicable to the courses they are assigned to teach.
- Be willing to participate in faculty development activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Be willing and able to help students from all backgrounds succeed.
Special Requirements / Union Information
- Positions with 0.5 FTE or more are represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues.
- Positions with less than 0.5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues.
- Union representational status may change if the FTE changes during employment.
- Exemptions:
Completed PEI exam or extension faculty exempt from the Union.
