Position DescriptionPioneer Technical Services is currently looking for an entry level Civil Engineer to work out of our Butte, MT office. We are looking for a dedicated and hard-working engineer to join our team that will assist our staff on environmental remediation and civil construction projects within Butte and surrounding areas. Pioneer is a 100% employee-owned ESOP that was founded on the belief that the employees should manage their own future.
The position responsibilities encompass all aspects of environmental remediation and civil construction projects including project design and construction oversight. Under the direction of the Project Engineer or Project Manager, the Staff Engineer will be expected to perform the following:
- Preparation of design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Perform construction oversight, including sampling and testing (as required), to ensure design specifications are adhered to.
- Conduct environmental sampling and complete required reporting.
- Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines within Pioneer, including structural, geotechnical, water resources, and environmental.
- Assist with business development and proposal writing efforts.
The Staff Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Project Engineer or Project Manager assigned to individual projects and to the Staff Engineer's Team Leader. The Staff Engineer is an entry level position.
Essential Functions- Keep personal data updated to reflect current experience, training, registration and professional areas of expertise.
- Represent Pioneer Technical Services to clients and prospective clients in a professional manner at all times.
- Assist Project Engineer/Project Manager with scheduling project tasks.
- Executes specific tasks of the project assigned by the Project Engineer/Project Manager.
- Typical projects involve environmental remediation and/or civil project design tasks including stormwater, surface water, and mine waste excavation design.
- Keeps the Project Engineer/Project Manager fully informed of what is transpiring with his/her part of the project.
- Prepare task progress reports to keep the Project Engineer/Project Manager informed of the completion schedule and budget for each task.
- Attend project control sessions, as required.
- Participate in the firm's Quality Assurance and Quality Control program, performing project tasks in accordance with company policies and standards.
- Under the supervision of the Project Engineer/Project Manager, the Staff Engineer is responsible for oversight of construction activities to ensure design specifications are adhered to and deviations from approved practices are communicated to the Project Engineer/Project Manager.
- Project administration duties include maintaining task files documenting the history of involvement with the project.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field REQUIRED.
Experience: 2 to 8 years of experience in civil engineering or related design work. Experience performing construction oversight preferred but not required.
