What the Job Is All About Main Purpose of the PositionThe main responsibility of a Laundry Worker is to support all laundry and production-related processes within the plant. This includes cleaning, sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, packing, and quality checking linen and related items.
Workers are also expected to identify problems, report issues, and take corrective action where needed to maintain quality standards.
Uniform, PPE, and Hygiene Standards Wearing the Correct Uniform and PPELaundry Workers must always wear the required Montana uniform, closed black shoes, and a name tag while on duty. Before starting any task, the correct Personal Protective Equipment must be worn. This includes:
- Hairnet or mocap
- Mask
- Gloves
- Apron
All issued PPE must be recorded and signed for on the provided sheets.
Personal Hygiene RequirementsGood hygiene is essential in the laundry environment. Workers must wash their hands:
- When entering the laundry
- Before handling clean linen
- Before and after eating
- Before and after using the toilet
These steps help prevent contamination and ensure client safety.
Receiving, Sorting, and Washing Linen Handling Dirty Linen CorrectlyLaundry Workers receive dirty linen from cleaners, sort it by item, count it, and record the information in the provided book. Both the laundry representative and cleaner must sign the book.
Stained linen must be kept separate and washed separately to avoid spreading stains.
Weighing and Loading MachinesAll linen must be weighed correctly according to washing machine capacity and item type. Washer extractors must be loaded correctly from back to front, without overloading.
Workers must select the correct wash programme and add the correct amount of detergent into the soap compartment.
Equipment Cleaning and RecordsAfter unloading, all trolleys and bins must be washed and disinfected. Each cleaning task must be recorded and signed on the checklist. Washer log sheets must be completed accurately, including correct load times.
