Position: Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN - Full Time

Responsibilities Administrative Functions
  • Direct nursing assistants according to facility rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures.
  • Review and recommend updates to department policies and manuals.
  • Plan shifts’ services, programs, and activities with staff.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Make written and oral reports on shift activities.
  • Coordinate with resident services to maintain a comprehensive care regimen.
  • Ensure compliance with job descriptions and quality assurance programs.
  • Participate in facility inspections and surveys.
  • Review and update residents’ discharge plans as needed.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents.
  • Complete accident/incident reports and resident charge slips.
  • Maintain the Daily Census Report and handle related paperwork.
  • Protect confidential information and report violations.
Charting and Documentation
  • File required recordkeeping forms on admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Encourage physicians to review treatment plans and sign orders.
  • Record telephone orders and transcribe physician orders into charts.
  • Write descriptive nursing notes reflecting care provided and resident response.
  • Submit accident/incident reports and discharge documentation.
  • Enter diet changes and discrepancies into the system.
  • Sign all entries in the resident’s medical record.
Drug Administration Functions
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered.
  • Verify resident identity before medication administration.
  • Prevent medication errors between residents.
  • Maintain adequate floor stock of medications and supplies.
  • Report medication supplies and narcotic records to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Notify the Supervisor and physician of any drug or narcotic discrepancies.
  • Dispose of drugs and narcotics per protocol.
Personnel Functions
  • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing decisions.
  • Report staffing needs, absences, and absentee call‑ins.
  • Develop work assignments and provide leadership to shift staff.
  • Conduct daily rounds to ensure compliance with nursing standards.
  • Ensure all nurses and aides are qualified and supervised appropriately.
  • Maintain a positive, calm work environment.
  • Handle complaints, grievances, and disciplinary actions fairly.
  • Report occupational exposures and incidents of fraud.
  • Secure unattended computer workstations.
Nursing Care Functions
  • Inform staff of new admissions and room assignments.
  • Prepare rooms and escort new residents.
  • Orient new residents and families.
  • Coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Collaborate with physicians on resident care.
  • Review charts for orders, medications, and diets.
  • Implement nursing objectives and standards.
  • Monitor and check providers’ adherence to treatment plans.
  • Support social and activity programs and coordinate schedules.
  • Notify physicians of accidents or condition changes.
  • Assist recovery and rehabilitative programs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of nursing areas.
  • Administer procedures such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, blood draws, massage, range‑of‑motion, and end‑of‑life care.
  • Use restraints only when compliant with policy.
  • Take specimens and record vital signs.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents.
  • Ensure food brought by family meets dietary allowances.
  • Verify resident safety and check for those who cannot call for help.
  • Assist with discharge planning, transport, and family notifications.
  • Coordinate funeral services and follow post‑mortem procedures.
Staff Development
  • Develop, conduct, and schedule in‑service training.
  • Maintain a robust orientation program for new staff.
  • Standardize work methods and train staff on exposure precautions.
  • Assist in clinical supervision of nurse aide trainees.
