Qualifications
- Current State of Mississippi license with an administrator endorsement
- Five years successful teaching experience and/or administrative experience
- Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
- Experience and understanding of assessing student progress and determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Possess the ability to supervise curriculum programs assigned to support such programs.
- Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily, students with disabilities
- Experience in coaching and mentoring teachers
- Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify lessons
- Knowledge and experience with Tier 3 interventions

Job SummaryAssistant Principal/ Instructional Specialist will provide instructional support and coaching to HCSD teachers and instructional assistants as they work to implement the curriculum and specially designed instruction. The primary role of the Assistant Principal/Instructional Specialist is to work with teachers, administrators, and the Office of Curriculum to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of classroom and school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of individual needs of students.
As a coach, the Assistant Principal/Instructional Specialist is responsible for providing support in instructional planning and delivery (coaching and modeling), especially designed instruction, analyzing data in order to adapt curriculum, and sharing of best practices across all academic disciplines. As an Assistant Principal, the Assistant Principal/Instructional Specialist will assist the principal in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising all educational activities and all related and supporting activities of the school.
EssentialFunctions
Instructional Support:
- Provides instructional coaching in all academic areas which includes student-centered observation-feedback cycles with individual teachers focused on improving student outcomes through effective instruction and assessment
- Facilitates reflection and problem solving with teachers
- Creates an environment that establishes and promotes continuous improvement for student outcomes
- Collaborates with teachers and provides specific strategies for improved instructional delivery with research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all students
- Assists special education teachers across all content areas but will also support them in implementing specially designed instruction from each diagnostic all students are administered (iReady, STAR) and utilize the small group instructional tools to close the gap.
- Co-teaches and/or models lessons as needed to support teacher development
- Builds teacher capacity in ensuring all students with disabilities have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities that take individual student needs into consideration
Data Analysis Support:
- Establishes a culture that uses student data regularly to improve instructional practices
- Builds teacher capacity in effectively using formative data to inform instruction
- Cultivates a standards-based, data and results-oriented culture
- Collaborates and/or facilitates the analysis of interim and formative assessment data that informs instructional planning
Administrative Support:
- Leads, supervises, and evaluates the school’s instructional and co-curricular programs.
- Assists in selecting, recommending, and evaluating building personnel as assigned.
- Develops and enforces procedures for effective student discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Supervises building maintenance, budgeting, the student activity account, and expenditures and the preparation of all school reports, as assigned.
- Provides appropriate staff development programs at the building level, as assigned.
