Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine

The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications and nominations for a Director of Clinical Skills (non-tenure track; Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new veterinary program from the ground up-an environment where your ideas matter, your expertise drives meaningful change, and your impact on students is both immediate and lasting.

We are seeking an energetic educator who is passionate about excellence in teaching and enthusiastic about helping students thrive. At Lyon, you will join a supportive and highly collaborative faculty who are redefining what veterinary medical education can be-integrating modern approaches, immersive learning, and a student-centered philosophy to create a truly vibrant academic home.

As a member of our founding team, you will help build a clinical skills curriculum that empowers graduates to be not only career-ready, but future-ready veterinarians, prepared to meet the rapidly evolving demands of 21st century veterinary medicine.

Primary responsibilities include teaching, service, and scholarly activities. Teaching activities are related to clinical skills, primary care, and wellness. Service activities vary according to individual preference and program needs. Scholarly activities depend upon the goals of the individual and time assignment to scholarship. A typical time assignment is 75% teaching, 20% scholarly activities, and 5% service. Alternative hiring models including part time, non-benefit eligible positions will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

* Design, implement, and oversee the veterinary skills curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and best practices.

* Develop and maintain clinical skills laboratories, including simulation-based training and live-animal teaching opportunities.

* Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate clinical skills training throughout all years of the veterinary program.

* Evaluate and assess student performance in clinical skills, using objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and other competency and outcome assessment tools.

* Mentor and train faculty, staff, and teaching assistants involved in clinical skills education.

* Lead efforts to innovate and enhance clinical skills teaching, including the incorporation of new technologies and teaching methods.

* Ensure compliance with all institutional, state, and national regulations regarding animal welfare and teaching practices.

* Provide innovative education, mentorship, and guidance to all students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, clinical skills laboratory, and simulation center.

* Participate in student assessment, feedback, and remediation to ensure that students meet LCSVM's high academic standards.

* Participate in overall curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement.

* Provide service to Lyon College and the greater community by serving on committees, providing leadership, participating in community outreach events, and working with professional organizations and groups.

* Maintain discipline and teaching expertise through continuing professional education.

* Engage in scholarly activities, including research, authorship, presentations at conferences, teaching innovation, entrepreneurship, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities, such as veterinary education, clinical skills development, incorporation of technologies in learning, and related areas.

For all positions:

* Promote the mission of LCSVM to all faculty, staff, students, and to the local, state, national, and international communities, as appropriate.

* Contribute to a culture of academic creativity, innovation, and collaboration that fosters student success.

* Promote effective, collaborative, inclusive working relationships among faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.

* Advance the principles of andragogy and pedagogy throughout LCSVM.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Comply with all policies and standards.
