Position Summary
The School Psychology Specialist/Psychological Examiner works to support the success of students academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. This position maintains a collaborative relationship with school personnel, students, and parents by identifying and assessing the learning, development, behavioral and emotional characteristics, and needs of students, as well as environmental factors that affect students’ learning and behavior/emotions.
Responsibilities- Possess knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies regarding students’ special education eligibility and programming
- Select and administer age‑appropriate assessment methods and materials to determine students’ needs
- Interpret assessment results and compile comprehensive psychological assessment reports that address the reason for referral and include appropriate recommendations
- Effectively communicate and discuss individual performance/evaluation results with school personnel, students, and parents
- Participate in eligibility committee meetings and contribute to the development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Participate in other pertinent meetings at assigned schools as needed
- Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding psychological services and the academic/psychological/behavioral needs of students
- Attend professional growth activities, maintain current knowledge of trends, requirements, and special education legal and procedural developments
- Attend workshops, seminars, or classes, as appropriate
- Apply and use knowledge gained to promote progress in the special education area
- Provide in‑service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding students with disabilities and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students
- Ensure compliance with testing regulations that apply to school‑based psychological testing services
- Conduct behavioral classroom/school observations
- Assist in or conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist in or design behavior intervention plans
- Work with parents, teachers, and administrators to develop strategies to address learning and behavior difficulties
- Prepare timely reports to maintain timelines for due process paperwork completion and conferences
- Provide individual and/or group counseling
- Keep abreast of developments and research in the field of school psychology and share findings with colleagues
- Adhere to all district policies and the Arkansas Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by building and central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent
- Knowledge of current research, changes, and trends to facilitate positive behavior support
- Excellent people skills
- Attention to minute details of a project or task
- Master’s Degree required
- Must hold a valid teaching certificate and necessary credentials for Arkansas State‑approved School Psychology Specialist or a valid license from the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Psychology as a Psychological Examiner
- Experience in conducting and interpreting evaluations and behavior modification development and in producing written evaluation reports required
- Successful completion of all background checks
